Artist Statement – Peaceful Waters
My place of peace, relaxation and calm is near water, especially the sea. Even if the day is windy and the waves are large, walking or sitting by the water always brings a sense of tranquility. In a world where we constantly experience chaos, stress and busy-ness I aim to share experiences of quiet, solitude and stillness.
Long Exposure photography results in an ethereal look in which stationary objects are solid and moving waves are soft and transitory, creating the feel of movement with their streaky lines or by their blurred definition. This can create an image that is quite removed from reality the way we know it to be.

This series of images were all taken from the seashore in Australia and New Zealand over various times of the day from pre-dawn to dusk. I used slow shutter speeds to photograph a seascape that was often quite turbulent and transform it into a place of serenity and calm.
